Verticutting & Dethatching
Got a Spongy, Bumpy Lawn You Hate Walking On?
That mushy feeling underfoot is a thick mat of dead grass called thatch. Our verticutter rips it out down to bare dirt, the kind of pro turf work you’d see on a golf course. Most lawn guys don’t own the equipment to do it right. We aren’t like the others.

What It Actually Does
Verticutting Is Aggressive Thatch Removal. Down to the Dirt.
Over time, dead grass and roots pile up into a spongy layer that sits between your green blades and the soil. A little is fine. Too much, and water can’t get through, your lawn bounces when you walk it, and seed has nowhere to take hold.
Verticutting uses power-rotating blades that slice straight down through that mat and pull it up. Regular raking or a tow-behind dethatcher barely scratches it. Ours gets to the bottom.
What you’re left with is exposed soil, just like a slit seeder leaves behind. And that’s exactly what you want before you reseed.
Why It Works
Pro Turf Equipment, Not a Rake
Professional turf gear is expensive, so most companies skip it. We invested in it so your lawn gets the real thing.
3 Floating Heads
Three floating verticutter heads follow the contours of your yard, so the blades stay in the dirt even over dips and bumps.
Soil Left Exposed
The spongy dead layer comes out and bare dirt is left behind. That’s the perfect seedbed if you want to overseed afterward.
No Job Too Big or Small
Small backyard or a sprawling property, we handle any size lawn with our machines. Same careful work either way.
This Is the Stuff Choking Your Lawn
See that? It’s the undulating sponge mat of dead grass we pull straight out of the turf. Once it’s gone, water, air, and seed finally reach the soil again.
The result is a lawn that’s firmer to ride and walk on. And that’s not Crappy.

Better Together
Pair It With Topdressing for a Firmer, Flatter Lawn
Verticutting and topdressing are a perfect match. We strip out the spongy thatch first, so when the topdressing mix goes down it’s soil on soil, not soil on a mushy cushion. That means a firmer base and a noticeably better leveling effect.
- Remove the sponge first. Thatch out of the way means your topdressing sits on solid ground.
- Soil on soil. Firmer footing and a flatter, smoother finished lawn.
- Perfect time to overseed. With bare dirt exposed, seed makes great contact. We can overseed as part of the job.

Verticutting & Dethatching FAQs
The big tell is the feel. If your lawn is spongy, bouncy, or hard to walk on, you’ve got a thick thatch layer. Water pooling on top instead of soaking in is another sign. When in doubt, send us a text and we’ll tell you straight.
Most dethatching is a light rake that pulls loose debris off the top. Verticutting goes deeper. Our power blades cut down through the matted layer and lift it out, all the way to bare soil. It’s the aggressive version, and it’s what golf courses and pro turf crews use.
It starts at $295, and the final price depends on your lawn size, whether we haul the material away, and if you add overseeding. Every yard’s different. Call or text (920) 562-0099 and we’ll quote your exact situation.
Yes. Once the thatch is gone and the soil is exposed, your seed gets great contact with the dirt. That’s the ideal moment to seed. We can handle the overseeding right after we verticut.
That’s the combo we love. We verticut first to clear the spongy layer, then lay the topdressing mix onto firm soil. Soil on soil levels far better than soil on a thatch cushion.
Any size. No job’s too big or too small for our machines.
